How to write an effective scene

Knowing what makes a complete scene means the difference between keeping what you’ve just written or tossing it aside.

Seems simple, right? Well, maybe. 

Rebecca Monterusso, a Story Grid certified developmental editor and writer, has advice on recognizing a scene and improving upon them over on Jane Friedman’s website.

In a nutshell, she says, scenes “should do the same thing your global story does: upset the life value of the character and put them on a path to try and restore it.”
