Wattpad to experiment with reader-payment program
Wattpad officials confirmed Tuesday that the company is launching a beta payment program for authors.
The short-term trial of the Wattpad Next program will take place in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Mexico and is by invitation only, according to Publishing Perspectives.
Readers in those regions can purchase bundles of “coins” that enable them to access chapters or entire stories.
Only certain stories will be marked “supported story” and require the coins; the others will remain free.
