The secrets to prolonging your writing career
Dean Wesley Smith was asked once by a fellow writer to study the secrets behind author longevity.
(The questioner chose the right person to ask — Smith, a USA Today bestselling author, has published far over a hundred novels over forty years, plus hundreds of short stories.)
With the caveat that everyone must find his or her own way, Smith discovered that most of the veteran writers he knew had the following traits:

They have a complete and total love of story of all types. -
They don’t see writing as work, but rather as who they are.

They are, almost without exception, prolific in their own ways.

They study craft all the time and never let business get far from their attention at any given moment.

They try to help younger professionals when they can.

They never stop for very long.
