Faleena Hopkins comments on settlement

Author Faleena Hopkins, who yesterday surrendered her trademark registration for the word “cocky,” has posted a video statement on her decision.

She explains that she filed for the trademarks because her books are like family to her and her readers, but after coming under attack, she decided to relinquish them.

Hopkins had also sued Tara Crescent, Jennifer Watson, and Kevin Kneupper in connection with the trademark claim.

Crescent had refused to rename books whose titles included the word "cocky," while Watson helped market an anthology titled Cocktales that written specifically to raise funds to fight against obstruction of creative expression.
